My wife and I stayed at the Lopesan Costa Meloneras hotel in Gran Canaria a year ago. We had a transfer from the airport in a vehicle which had quite a steep and flimsy looking metal ramp, but we arrived safely. The hotel was beautiful. We were welcomed into a spacious reception with a glass of champagne and after a short while we were shown to our room. The accessible rooms in the hotel were very roomy, as the photos show, but it did feel that they were tucked away towards a more secluded part of the hotel, and the view from our room was a hedge! Nonetheless, the hotel was easy to navigate and areas where there were steps also had ramps. One exit of the hotel led to the main road where there were some shops. One slight warning is that what constitutes a 'dropped kerb' in Gran Canaria would be just called a 'kerb' here! Not always ideal for wheelchair users. Also by the main road there was an outdoor cinema on the roof of one of the buildings. We were delighted when we found that there was a lift up to the roof. Unfortunately the lift was out of order and stayed that way for the fortnight. The other exit went straight out to the seafront promenade. Going in one direction took you to a line of restaurants. Taking the other route the path went for miles along the coast line. Pleasingly both routes were ok for wheelchair users. Although not relevant to this review, I wanted to mention Gran Canaria airport. If ever you wonder what the saying 'treated like cattle' means then grab yourself a wheelchair and head here. It was truly awful! Despite that, this was our first winter holiday and what a pleasure it was.
